Sustainable at Heart

At Organic Herd, sustainability isn’t just a word; it’s our way of life! We believe that the choices we make today, will shape the world of tomorrow. That’s why we choose to farm in a way that protects our planet, our cows, and our communities.

How we farm sustainably

Our approach to sustainability is deeply rooted in our farming practices. From building nutrient-rich soil, to enhancing biodiversity, our farmers work hand in hand with nature. We say no to artificial pesticides, herbicides, and GMOs. Rather than manipulating, we protect natural ecosystems and allow them to thrive. In addition to this, many of our farmers care for several critical landscapes including SSSI’s, AONB’s, wetlands, moorland and protected nesting sites, all of which are flourishing through sensitive organic management.

By doing this, we’re not just producing high-quality organic dairy; we’re creating a regenerative farming system that benefits us all.

What We Do as an Organisation

Beyond our grassy pastures, sustainability resonates in every corner of our organisation. From sourcing to production, we’re very mindful of the impact that we make. We’ve established partnerships with like-minded suppliers who share our values, ensuring that every step of our supply chain aligns with our environmental approach.

Our Commitment to the Environment

Whilst we’re proud of what we already do, we know there’s always more to be done. We’re investing in innovative practices that reduce waste, conserve energy, and minimize our impact. Through responsible packaging, efficient operations, and continuous research, we’re setting a standard for sustainable business practices in the dairy industry.

We don’t see our sustainability commitments as just a box to tick. It’s a compass guiding us towards a greener, healthier future.

Here’s your go-to recipe for traditional Scotch tablet. Buttery, crumbly, and seriously addictive - perfect for a cosy night in or a treat with a cuppa! Pro tip: hide a few pieces for yourself - they’ll disappear fast!

Ingredients:
900g Caster Sugar
250ml Organic Whole Milk
100g Organic Herd Unsalted Butter
1 tin (397g) Condensed Milk
A pinch of Salt
1/2 Tsp Vanilla Extract

Instructions:
1. Place the sugar, milk, and butter in a large pot over low heat. Stir gently until the sugar completely dissolves and the butter melts.
2. Once the sugar has dissolved, add the condensed milk. Turn up the heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring continuously.
2. Keep stirring as the mixture thickens and turns a light golden brown (this takes about 20 minutes). Be careful - it’ll be hot!
4. Once it thickens to a soft-ball stage, take it off the heat. Stir in a splash of vanilla and a pinch of salt. Pour into a greased tray, let it cool slightly, and cut into squares before it fully hardens.
